Matthews Law and its lawyers have again been ranked as leaders in competition/antitrust in the Chambers Asia-Pacific 2020 Guide. The firm has maintained its ranking as a “Band 2” firm (since 2019), with Principal Andrew Matthews retaining his “Band 1” position (which he has held since 2006) and Special Counsel Gus Stewart being elevated to “Up and Coming”.

The 2020 Guide describes Matthews Law as:

Specialist competition law boutique with extensive experience of cross-jurisdictional mandates and a high-profile clientele, well placed to act in conjunction with domestic firms lacking a competition practice, or international firms seeking to make a conflict-free inbound referral… The team’s exclusive focus on competition issues is seen as a key advantage by a number of interviewees.

Clients are quoted as saying: “What is most helpful is that they are a lean and efficient team who get straight to the heart of the problem; you’re always dealing with experts.”

Andy Matthews retains his Band 1 ranking in the 2020 Guide, which he has held since 2006. A client noted: “His experience in this area is so significant that I would trust him implicitly here.”

Gus Stewart has been elevated to “Up and Coming” in the 2020 Guide, and has been identified by sources as a “rising star” of the practice. He was described as “exceptionally talented and knowledgeable with a natural ability to understand the details and, just as importantly, to understand which of the details are critically important.”
